SUMMARY:Yoga\, Movement and Kirtan with James Boag
DESCRIPTION: Sunday 19th November 2017 14:00-18:30 \nBroad Spectrum\, Whole Life Yoga: Movement and Kirtan Explorations with James Boag\n14:00-16:00 Yoga and the Next Movement: Recreation and Evolution: Bringing yogic principles of balance and sustainability to broader spectrum movement. \nIn this yogic movement workshop/playshop we will first use yoga principles to explore how we can cultivate healthy neuro-muscular patterns and efficient kinetic chains through the body. This will include working with yoga postures ‘actively’\, against gravity\, inspired particularly by the work of hatha yoga teacher Simon Borg Olivier. We will then explore these principles through a broader spectrum of movement to invite greater vitality\, presence and rejeuvenation\, inspired particularly by Movement teacher Ido Portal. \n16:30 – 18:30 Kirtan: Yoga and the Power of Sound: Call and response singing and chanting with James Boag \nThe yoga tradition offers myriad tools we can work with to cultivate integration and recover our innate capacities for deep presence and sustainable wellbeing. These include many sound-based techniques and practices. The extraordinary visionaries and research scientists of the ancient yoga tradition recognised the pervasive\, penetrative power of sound and how the readily accessible resources of our own voices can be harnessed to foster harmony through the whole of our being. \nThe call and response singing and chanting of kirtan\, is simple\, yet powerful\, cleansing and uplifting. James will also speak briefly about kirtan\, Sanskrit as an energy-based language\, the symbolism and effects of the words we use in the practice\, and how kirtan relates to other practices and paths of yoga. \nEveryone welcome! Do not worry if you are not a virtuoso singer. The joy and practical benefits of yoga are open to everyone. \nInvestment: £18 per workshop – £30 for both. Deposit required to secure your spot. Payment accepted cash\, cheque\, paypal\, bank transfer. Contact us on info@pureyogacheshire.co.uk or phone 07909 144414 \nAbout James\nOriginally from Yorkshire\, James teaches yoga and applied yoga philosophy globally. \nJames is known for his storytelling\, his rich kirtans\, deep meditations\, principle-based approach to asana and movement\, and for bringing the timeless wisdom of the traditional scriptural teachings vividly into the context of our lives today. He has been teaching for over twenty years\, teaching yoga since 2003 and leading integrated programs on applied yoga philosophy around the world since 2009. He regularly returns to Mysore in South India where he completed his MA in Sanskrit\, to lead courses on the Bhagavad Gita\, Yoga Sutras and Indian Mythology. \nCheck out James’ courses on the Yoga Sutra-s\, Yoga Mythology and the Bhagavad Gita on www.yogaanytime.com\, use code JAMESBOAG for 30 days free access.

SUMMARY:Cacao Ceremony and Sacred Sound Journey with Gavin and Yasmin
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 29th of October 2017 – From 5 to 7 pm – £25.\nIntuitive sound duo Gavin and Yasmin return to Pure Yoga for a unmissable evening of sacred ceremony\, sensual chocolate and soothing sounds following their magical sell out visits in October and February.\nIndigenous myth recounts how whenever the balance between humans and nature becomes threatened\, cacao leaves the rainforest to open people’s hearts and return the planet to harmony. If you hear the call of this ancient art\, join us for a shamanic sound journey through the elements to re-emerge refreshed\, replenished and rejuvenated! \nA cacao ceremony opens the doors of the heart to deep transformation. Whichever your path\, the intention of the ceremony is yours to set\, and\, when called upon with reverence\, the cacao Deva aligns you with the insight and awareness required to move towards that shift. \nOne treasure of working with ceremonial cacao is its capacity to facilitate extremely rich and often visionary\, perceptive inner work. Ixcacao\, the cacao Deva\, has an intelligent\, gentle and well-crafted means of delivery that allows participants to slip effortlessly within to explore these deep\, inner terrains. After guided meditations and a shamanic sound journey through the elements\, space for journalling is provided so insights can be noted – it can often take days\, weeks or even months for the revelatory meaning of these whispers from the beyond to be fully understood. \n\n With over one thousand chemical constituents\, the bitter beans from the chocolate tree might well be the most pharmacologically complex food in nature. The alkaloids\, neurotransmitters\, neuromodulators\, vitamins and minerals specific to cacao have a particularly nourishing effect on the human body\, and these effects are amplified when using beans that have been fermented by burying underground in the traditional way.\n\nThis ancient method of processing distinguishes ceremonial grade cacao from raw or processed chocolate powders available in health shops and supermarkets. \n\nAbout Gavin and Yasmin:\n\nGavin is a sound healer\, bodyworker and herbalist who has been crafting exquisite elixirs from these beans since 2014. Alongside his partner Yasmin\, Gavin creates mystical soundscapes in a safe\, strongly-held space\, combining overtone singing with acoustic and sacred instruments from different cultures around the world. Instruments that may be used to guide the journey include the Reverie harp\, didgeridoo\, jew’s harp\, koto\, monochord\, tambura\, handpan\, ocean drum\, frame drum\, Koshi chimes\, Himalayan singing bowls\, sansula and tuning forks. \n\nAvoid eating heavy foods before the ceremony. We have some blankets at the studio\, but feel free to bring your own and a pillow to make yourself as comfortable as you can.\n\n\nRead some of last year’s testimonials:\n\nCocooned in a warm sanctuary at Pure Yoga Cheshire\, Yasmin and Gavin lead the most beautiful cacao ceremony. The experience was expansive\, yet nurturing as we connected with mother natures gift of cacao. The sound healing that followed took me into a deep meditative state which was a truly special experience\, a sound scape enhanced with scents and vibration. I can’t wait to join Yasmin and Gavin again to share natures medicine and succumb to the healing sounds. \n\nThe cacao ceremony with Gavin & Yasmin at Pure Yoga was amazing! I came not knowing what to expect at all\, I laughed & I cried but really loved the whole experience! It was a such a treat & I cannot wait for the next one! \nI really enjoyed it – I was unsure as to what it would be like but some of the sounds were really unusual and at one point I found myself crying! Loved the smells as well – in fact I wanted to ask what they were…\nThe ceremony was a beautiful\, relaxing and indulgent experience. I would thoroughly recommend it. \nI thought the ceremony was excellent – very informative about the cacao itself (which was unbelievably delicious!) and the sound journey took me into some truly weird and wonderful places. I was very moved by it all and felt warm and happy for hours afterwards! I’m really grateful for the experience and wouldn’t hesitate to do something similar again. \n\n\n\n\nDeposit required  to secure your spot – payable via bank transfer\, cash or cheque. SUMMARY:Drawing Breath: Yoga and Mark-making with Deborah
DESCRIPTION:An experiential workshop\, blending yoga asana\, breath awareness\, meditation and mark-making. Saturday 14th October 2017 1.30 – 4pm £20\nThis workshop is for doodlers\, movers\, breathers and the curious. No previous experience of yoga or mark-making necessary. All equipment will be provided. \nAbout \nThe Drawing Breath workshop blends yoga asana and breath awareness with an exploration of drawing or rather mark making in a meditative\, less directed\, more doodley way. \nWhy say mark making rather than drawing\nMost people (adults) will tell you they can’t draw even some artists will confess to this. It is of course rubbish\, but they won’t believe you. So we call it mark making and every one can do this. We don’t begin with the idea that we are going to draw a particular this or that. We begin with the mark\, how does it feel? What is the sensation of the pencil moving on the paper\, does the hand and the arm sweep or jerk. Is the paper rough or smooth\, how does the mark make you feel? What can you express with your marks? \nWhat to expect\nThe workshop will be similar to a regular yoga class in many ways\, after an initial introduction and settling in\, the session will begin with simple breath awareness\, with and without pencil. We will warm up the body with limbering postures and movements and in the same regard limber our mark making. Then progress to exploring standing and seated postures in movement and mark. Having some fun exploring our feelings and how it feels to make different postures in mark and movement. The session will end with meditation\, a relaxing doodle and savasana (complete relaxation). \nFor those not used to drawing or doodling\, don’t worry you will not be left with a blank piece of paper and not know ‘what to draw’ you will be guided just as you will be guided through the yoga asana. Within this there will of course be opportunity to express your individual self\, in posture and in mark. \nAbout Deborah\,\nDeborah is a practicing fine artist and yoga teacher. Increasingly Deborah has a found commonality between her practices of yoga and art which has led her to share some of these ideas in the drawing breath workshop.

SUMMARY:Yoga for Back Care with Deborah
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 17th June 2017 1:30pm – 4pm £20\nYoga can be an invaluable practice for managing existing back conditions\, helping prevent future problems and dealing with some acute back pain episodes.\nIn this workshop\, we will use breathing practices to bring awareness to the spine and gentle movements suitable for when we have reduced mobility. Then we will move through limbering sequences toward standing\, seated\, prone and supine postures to take the spine through its full range of flexibilities. \nWe will look at what it means to bring the spine into its neutral curves and how we can use the all-important core muscle group to support our spine during practice. Using strengthening and stabilising postures to help address any muscle imbalances and weakness that may contribute to our back problems. We will finish with some more restorative postures and savasana. \nDeborah has been practicing yoga for many years and with growing knowledge and practice has found yoga extremely beneficial for the prevention and management of her own back problems. \nSince qualifying as a yoga teacher with Yogacampus Deborah has continued to study with them to deepen her knowledge and understanding of therapeutic yoga\, particularly regarding back pain solutions and prevention. Studying with various teachers including Julie Gudmestad\, internationally renowned yoga teacher and licensed physical therapist\, Doug Keller who teaches workshops and trainings in the therapeutic applications of yoga\, and Ann Blackmore a yoga and body work therapist and trained osteopath. \nFor those with existing chronic or acute back conditions we would advise you to consult your doctor or therapist before participating in this workshop. \n

You never have to read your work aloud. \nWhat is Writing for Wellbeing?\nWords have power! Writing is good for you! We use guided writing activities as a gentle approach to personal growth. These writing activities are tools which you can take away with you to use throughout life. \nA developing body of research shows that expressive writing helps calm the mind and emotions\, and increases feelings of happiness and wellbeing. People who have done Writing for Wellbeing say it sparks their imagination and helps them release both personal and creative limitations. As well\, they find it focusing and meditative\, and say it helps them be kinder to themselves. \nHow does it work?\nWriting for Wellbeing is easy! You will be guided through specific writing activities designed to help release the words within you in a positive and creative way. SUMMARY:Clear Mind Yoga with Pressiana in Macclesfield
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 22nd of April 2017 – from 1.30 to 5.30 pm – £30\nThis workshop will reveal the richness of slowness and stillness.\nWe will combine asanas (postures)\, pranayama ( breathing) and slow movements to develop the sensitivity and understanding about our comfort zones and discomforts.\nThe slow practices are simple but in the same time quite intense and challenging. \nGravity will be an essential part of the workshop. We will learn how to utilise it in our asanas and surrender to it to make it work for us. \nWhen we move slow or stay in the asanas for a longer period\, the effect reaches the nadis (meridians) where the prana energy(life force energy) flows.\nThe effect takes place on deeper layers than the physical body\, it works on the mental\, emotional and energy body.\nWe will improve the circulation of prana\, which will start removing any mental or emotional blockages that have created tensions. \nStep out of every day hectic and treat yourself with four hours of sweet deep relaxation\, a better understanding about your limits\, a good laugh and maybe\ncry. \nThe workshop is suitable for very beginners and advanced students. \nAbout the teacher \nPressiana Petia (Sannyasin Vishuddhi) was introduced to OM as the essence of existence by her mother\, and yoga has been a part of her life since her childhood. \nPrimarily working as a professional photographer Pressiana was born in Bulgaria but based in Germany and teaching in centers and ashrams around the world. \nShe is the founder and director of Corsica-Yoga Center since 2000 where she gives classes\, workshops\, retreats and teacher training programs. \nShe studied in India for years with great masters as Swami Satyananda\, B.K.S Iyengar\, Rishi Dharmajyoti\, just to name some\, and holds a diploma in advanced yogic studies and yoga therapy from Vishwa Yoga Darshan in Trimbakeshwar in India. Pressiana is initiated into Sannyas in the lineage of Bihar School of Yoga and carries the spiritual name Sn.Vishuddhi Saraswati.\nAlongside she is certified Ayurveda panchakarma therapist and Reiki Grandmaster.\nHer yoga classes merge the dualities of being funny & serious\, fast & slow\, laughing & crying. The main focus is on awareness\, concentration and sensitivity on every breath\, emotion\, thought and pose.

SUMMARY:Kirtan: Journey In To the Heart with Bhavana.
DESCRIPTION:Friday 24th of March 2017 from 7.15 to 8.45 pm\nOnce again we are delighted to host our friends Narayani and Mat for a joyous evening of kirtan!\nKirtan is chanting or singing\, a form of yoga for the voice done in a group accompanied by music. It requires no background or training\, and is easily learnt. Repeating Sanskrit mantras creates a meditative and uplifted mental state\, and helps to melt inhibitions that can suppress your voice and expression. You add your voice to those around you\, creating a sense of harmony. Some people feel a sense of calm\, others a sense of elation- it’s a great way to unblock emotions and a sense of being stuck. The words and melodies are simple and repeated so that you can get into a rhythm and enter a more meditative state conducive to letting go. \nBhavana’s kirtans are unique throughout the world for their dynamism\, creative use of the ancient mantras\, range of sounds\, and ability to access so many routes to the calm place within. \nPrice: £10 pre-book\, £12 at door \nAbout Bhavana: \nNarayani and Mat Baker are a husband and wife team who share a love and passion for devotional music\, kirtan and the power of sound. They travel throughout the UK and Europe offering their music and voice workshops wherever they are invited. \nNarayani is known for her powerful devotional singing and for facilitating voicework that opens the heart and encourages our highest expression. Over the last 10 years\, her journey of yoga led her to discover her own resonant voice. Leading her first Kirtan had such a profound and transformative impact on her life that she chose to offer that same gift to others through Kirtan and voice workshops around the world. Narayani studied voice work with Chloe Goodchild and the Naked Voice and has learnt yoga and trained as a teacher in the lineage of Krishnamacharya  and the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres. \nMat is a singer and multi-instrumentalist. He brings a gentle\, transformational quality with his soulful voice and powerful percussion and Bouzouki (Mandolin family) playing. His passion for devotional music began in his childhood in South Africa. His discovered Bhakti Yoga and Kirtan on meeting his wife\, Narayani and it quickly became a very natural and integral part of his life and music.   Mat also performs solo\, singing devotional folk with his Bouzouki\, as well as collaborating with a variety of inspirational World & Devotional musicians.  Mat has studied with a number of master percussion teachers including Glen Velez and Reinhard Flatischler. \nMore information on Bhavana website.

SUMMARY:Fine Tuning Alignment & Self Adjustment: Yoga Workshop with Joanna Walter
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 20th of August 2016\, from 13.00 to 16.00 – £25\nWhy bother learning to align the body in your yoga practice? On a very physical level it helps protect the bones\, joints\, muscles\, vessels\, tissue and organs of the body. Keeping them in a much better working order. But just as important although not so obvious is how important correct physical alignment is in regard to the flow of energy/Prana in the body. \nAccording to Yoga philosophy we humans are constructed a bit like an onion\, with layers\, five to be precise also known as sheaths or bodies and in Sanskrit they are called Kosha’s. Moving from gross to subtle they are: \nAnnamaya Kosha -The outer physical layer; Pranamaya Kosha – the energetic body; Manomaya Kosha the mental body; Vijnanamaya Kosha the intellectual body; and lastly Anandamaya Kosha the bliss body. At the centre of these lies the Self or Atman. \nThese layers can be described and experienced differently but they are inseparable and interconnected. What happens to one affects what happens to them all. So coming back to the alignment of the body\, we can start to understand what BKS Iyengar means in his quote from Light on life ” It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind\, self and intelligence ” \nWhen we go to a Yoga class our alignment gets adjusted by the teacher\, but what can we do when we are practising on our own ? During this workshop I will be teaching techniques on how to fine tune your alignment so you can have a better understanding of what correct alignment looks and feels like. I will also be giving techniques on how to adjust your own alignment using props. \nFor more information and bookings: contact Francesca at info@pureyogacheshire.co.uk of phone 07909 144 414 \nAbout Jo: \nJo has been practicing Yoga for 20 years\, starting with a 10 day Vipassana meditation in 1996 in Nepal. This was followed by a devoted Ashtanga Vinyasa practice which led to her 1st teacher training with Pattabhi Jois’s nephew Vishwanath in 2003\,  which was an amazing full time 3 month intensive in Bangalore – India. \nShe then had the great fortune to be part of the last full time 9 month teacher training with Louisa Sear’s Yoga Arts in Australia. During her 9 month training she met her teacher Clive Sheridan who’s experience and knowledge of Yoga is truly outstanding\, teaching his unique blend of Hatha Yoga\, Advaita Vedanta and Tantra. Jo has also been very lucky to be Clive’s assistant on several of his retreats. Also on the 9 month training she met Iyengar teacher’s Glen and Margaret Ceresoli who she has spent the last 6 years training with. \nShe has been teaching Yoga professionally since 2005.
