SUMMARY:Qigong and Mindfulness Workshop with Liam Thomas & Simon Haves.
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 8th December 2018. 2 to 5pm. Contribution – £30\nIn this 3 hour workshop we’ll go on an experiential journey into the Art of Mindfulness\, weaving together the practical tools of Meditation and Qigong.\nDrawing on several thousand years of Chinese wisdom\, Qigong offers gentle yet powerful movements that focus on cultivating and circulating our essential life energy (or Qi). We’ll explore techniques to loosen tension and become more grounded in the physical body\, before working with aspects of healing Qigong that focus specifically on energizing and centering our whole being. Liam Thomas has been studying Qigong for 7 years\, and recently certified as a Qigong teacher with the Shiatsu School\, Bristol. He has taught Qigong in both community settings\, and as part of longer retreats. \nMindfulness is the practice of being in the present moment without judgement. Practising mindfulness can help you to live with the day to day stresses of life. It also supports the development of \nself awareness and compassion. To foster these qualities\, Simon will guide you through practices such as body scan\, awareness of breathing\, and meditations on compassion. Simon has been practising Mindfulness since 2010 and has taught mindfulness to a wide audience including youth workers\, educators\, LGBTQ young people\, plus his regular group in a local barber shop! He qualified as a Breathworks Mindfulness teacher in 2017. \nMaximum workshop capacity 8 people. Please book in advance to reserve a place by contacting Liam at Liam_thomas@riseup.net or phone 07547 885016. We look forward to welcoming you. \n \n

SUMMARY:Forrest Yoga Introduction with Gill Slater - Open Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 1st of December 2018 – from 1 to 3 pm. Investment £18\nCome and join us as we explore some Forrest Yoga. We will be spending time learning to breathe deeply and connect to feeling in our bodies.\nThe breathing then supports and informs the asana practice\, enabling longer holds and working in a way that allows for integrity and safety in the poses. \nForrest Yoga is a strong practice leading to a deep connection to centre and the whole of the core. \nThis yoga event is all about learning more about the practice and yourself. \nThis workshop is suitable for all – from those who are just beginning their yoga journey to those more experienced. \n“Forrest Yoga is renowned as an intensely physical and internally focused practice that emphasizes how to carry a transformative experience off the mat and into daily life.  The practice challenges students to access their whole being and to use Forrest Yoga as a path to finding and then cleansing the emotional and mental blocks that dictate and limit their lives.  Students cultivate an acute awareness of their own practice and life process\, creating a unique and powerful opportunity for them to make practical life decisions based on their own experiences.”(From Forrest Yoga Philosophy www.forrestyoga.com) \nAbout Gill Slater (Open Yoga): \nI began my working life as a primary school teacher\, teaching in the UK and in Kenya. That was a long time ago and much has happened since then. Some of it by design but much of it was unplanned. It turned out just fine. \nOn returning to the UK from Zimbabwe in the mid ’80’s I trained as a counsellor and worked both privately and within the public sector. I worked for several years at MIND as a counsellor and went on to be employed by GMP and St Mary’s Hospital as a Counsellor and Crisis Worker at The St Mary’s Sexual Assault Centre. Alongside my teaching in primary education and counselling I began my training in massage. Massage became my passion and for the past 17 years has been my ‘job’. \nI began as a Remedial Massage Therapist dealing with injuries and general aches and pains. I went on to do Sport’s Massage and then No Hands Massage which prolonged my working life and gave me many tools to work with. On reaching 61 years of age (October 2016) The Universe poked me strongly and\, after much deep thought I decided to ‘retire’ from my massage work. However\, my knowledge of the body hugely informs how I teach yoga and so nothing is ever wasted. \nTwenty years ago I went to an Iyengar Yoga class and stayed for nine years soaking it all up. Training to teach seemed the perfect next step and so I trained with Brian Cooper in Astanga Yoga. I went on to work with various wonderful teachers including Sandra Sabatini who was a pupil of Vanada Scaravelli and most recently Ana Forrest. I completed my Forrest Foundation Training in 2012 and have taught a small\, very dedicated group since then. I currently teach one external class a week and several private sessions and from my Therapy Room at home. Ana Forrest’s training underpins all that I now share with my wonderful yoga folk. It has also been instrumental in healing me physically\, mentally\, emotionally and spiritually. The practice is intense but achievable and I\, who can no longer take part in an Astanga/Vinyasa practice due to back issues\, delight in my Forrest time on the mat. \nMost recently I have returned to my interest in The Feldenkrais Method and Hanna Somatics to broaden my understanding of the body’s capacity to move\, heal and feel. Three years ago I completed my Pregnancy Yoga Training with Sally Parkes and along the way I have trained in Reiki to Master Level and Reconnective Healing with Dr Eric Pearl. I am married\, very happily to John who is a retired Civil Engineer and we have a gorgeous daughter\, Katie. Last year I spent a wonderful two weeks teaching yoga to all who passed by during their stay at the beautiful Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa. All my teaching skills proved immensely useful as I had a wide variety of people from the total beginner to those who practice daily back home. \nInformation and bookings: info@pureyogacheshire.co.uk – phone 07909144414

DESCRIPTION:Sunday 22nd of April 2018 – from 5.30 to 7.30\nTake time out to recharge\, restore\, regenerate and clear your mind…\nWhen was the last time you dedicated 2 full hours to yourself? A Sunday night treat where we will reflect\, recharge and relax… Join us at our studio where we are blessed with a quiet and beautiful space conducive to peace and tranquillity. \nIn this special we will practice Yin Yoga and Restorative postures\, Pranayama and Meditation. We’ll introduce Bija Mantra (Seed Sounds) that correspond to energy centres in our body to tune up and refine our energy awareness. Culminating in a long and profound relaxation – some sound might also be introduced to resonate with our energy body…The perfect end to the weekend to restore your energies before the start of a new week. \nYin Yoga allows us to ground and to slow down\, balancing our busy lifestyle. You will be holding certain sitting postures for a little longer than usual and this will benefit your joints and your inner body\, calming both prana (upper body energy) and apana (lower body energy). It’s the ideal practice to ground and prepare the body and the mind to sitting meditation. \nRestorative postures are truly comfortable simple seated postures\, where the body rests over props like bolsters\, blocks and blankets. The quiet environment and beautiful setting is perfect for enhancing relaxation and wellbeing. \nPranayama is the actual essence of Yoga. Very simple breathing techniques to focus and calm the mind\, and to recharge the body’s vital energy. It is said that Prana (vital energy) dissipates through an overactive lifestyle\, so this is the perfect way to replenish your deep resources! \nDrop in rate: £16\nSpecial price for Pure Yoga members:\n10 class pass holders: £8 plus a stamp on their card – Unlimited pass holders: £14\nPlease contact us for more information and for booking. SUMMARY:Yoga\, Movement and Kirtan with James Boag
DESCRIPTION: Sunday 19th November 2017 14:00-18:30 \nBroad Spectrum\, Whole Life Yoga: Movement and Kirtan Explorations with James Boag\n14:00-16:00 Yoga and the Next Movement: Recreation and Evolution: Bringing yogic principles of balance and sustainability to broader spectrum movement. \nIn this yogic movement workshop/playshop we will first use yoga principles to explore how we can cultivate healthy neuro-muscular patterns and efficient kinetic chains through the body. This will include working with yoga postures ‘actively’\, against gravity\, inspired particularly by the work of hatha yoga teacher Simon Borg Olivier. We will then explore these principles through a broader spectrum of movement to invite greater vitality\, presence and rejeuvenation\, inspired particularly by Movement teacher Ido Portal. \n16:30 – 18:30 Kirtan: Yoga and the Power of Sound: Call and response singing and chanting with James Boag \nThe yoga tradition offers myriad tools we can work with to cultivate integration and recover our innate capacities for deep presence and sustainable wellbeing. These include many sound-based techniques and practices. The extraordinary visionaries and research scientists of the ancient yoga tradition recognised the pervasive\, penetrative power of sound and how the readily accessible resources of our own voices can be harnessed to foster harmony through the whole of our being. \nThe call and response singing and chanting of kirtan\, is simple\, yet powerful\, cleansing and uplifting. James will also speak briefly about kirtan\, Sanskrit as an energy-based language\, the symbolism and effects of the words we use in the practice\, and how kirtan relates to other practices and paths of yoga. \nEveryone welcome! Do not worry if you are not a virtuoso singer. The joy and practical benefits of yoga are open to everyone. \nInvestment: £18 per workshop – £30 for both. Deposit required to secure your spot. Payment accepted cash\, cheque\, paypal\, bank transfer. Contact us on info@pureyogacheshire.co.uk or phone 07909 144414 \nAbout James\nOriginally from Yorkshire\, James teaches yoga and applied yoga philosophy globally. \nJames is known for his storytelling\, his rich kirtans\, deep meditations\, principle-based approach to asana and movement\, and for bringing the timeless wisdom of the traditional scriptural teachings vividly into the context of our lives today. He has been teaching for over twenty years\, teaching yoga since 2003 and leading integrated programs on applied yoga philosophy around the world since 2009. He regularly returns to Mysore in South India where he completed his MA in Sanskrit\, to lead courses on the Bhagavad Gita\, Yoga Sutras and Indian Mythology. \nCheck out James’ courses on the Yoga Sutra-s\, Yoga Mythology and the Bhagavad Gita on www.yogaanytime.com\, use code JAMESBOAG for 30 days free access.

SUMMARY:Cacao Ceremony and Sacred Sound Journey with Gavin and Yasmin
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 29th of October 2017 – From 5 to 7 pm – £25.\nIntuitive sound duo Gavin and Yasmin return to Pure Yoga for a unmissable evening of sacred ceremony\, sensual chocolate and soothing sounds following their magical sell out visits in October and February.\nIndigenous myth recounts how whenever the balance between humans and nature becomes threatened\, cacao leaves the rainforest to open people’s hearts and return the planet to harmony. If you hear the call of this ancient art\, join us for a shamanic sound journey through the elements to re-emerge refreshed\, replenished and rejuvenated! \nA cacao ceremony opens the doors of the heart to deep transformation. Whichever your path\, the intention of the ceremony is yours to set\, and\, when called upon with reverence\, the cacao Deva aligns you with the insight and awareness required to move towards that shift. \nOne treasure of working with ceremonial cacao is its capacity to facilitate extremely rich and often visionary\, perceptive inner work. Ixcacao\, the cacao Deva\, has an intelligent\, gentle and well-crafted means of delivery that allows participants to slip effortlessly within to explore these deep\, inner terrains. After guided meditations and a shamanic sound journey through the elements\, space for journalling is provided so insights can be noted – it can often take days\, weeks or even months for the revelatory meaning of these whispers from the beyond to be fully understood. \n\n With over one thousand chemical constituents\, the bitter beans from the chocolate tree might well be the most pharmacologically complex food in nature. The alkaloids\, neurotransmitters\, neuromodulators\, vitamins and minerals specific to cacao have a particularly nourishing effect on the human body\, and these effects are amplified when using beans that have been fermented by burying underground in the traditional way.\n\nThis ancient method of processing distinguishes ceremonial grade cacao from raw or processed chocolate powders available in health shops and supermarkets. \n\nAbout Gavin and Yasmin:\n\nGavin is a sound healer\, bodyworker and herbalist who has been crafting exquisite elixirs from these beans since 2014. Alongside his partner Yasmin\, Gavin creates mystical soundscapes in a safe\, strongly-held space\, combining overtone singing with acoustic and sacred instruments from different cultures around the world. Instruments that may be used to guide the journey include the Reverie harp\, didgeridoo\, jew’s harp\, koto\, monochord\, tambura\, handpan\, ocean drum\, frame drum\, Koshi chimes\, Himalayan singing bowls\, sansula and tuning forks. \n\nAvoid eating heavy foods before the ceremony. We have some blankets at the studio\, but feel free to bring your own and a pillow to make yourself as comfortable as you can.\n\n\nRead some of last year’s testimonials:\n\nCocooned in a warm sanctuary at Pure Yoga Cheshire\, Yasmin and Gavin lead the most beautiful cacao ceremony. The experience was expansive\, yet nurturing as we connected with mother natures gift of cacao. The sound healing that followed took me into a deep meditative state which was a truly special experience\, a sound scape enhanced with scents and vibration. I can’t wait to join Yasmin and Gavin again to share natures medicine and succumb to the healing sounds. \n\nThe cacao ceremony with Gavin & Yasmin at Pure Yoga was amazing! I came not knowing what to expect at all\, I laughed & I cried but really loved the whole experience! It was a such a treat & I cannot wait for the next one! \nI really enjoyed it – I was unsure as to what it would be like but some of the sounds were really unusual and at one point I found myself crying! Loved the smells as well – in fact I wanted to ask what they were…\nThe ceremony was a beautiful\, relaxing and indulgent experience. I would thoroughly recommend it. \nI thought the ceremony was excellent – very informative about the cacao itself (which was unbelievably delicious!) and the sound journey took me into some truly weird and wonderful places. I was very moved by it all and felt warm and happy for hours afterwards! I’m really grateful for the experience and wouldn’t hesitate to do something similar again. \n\n\n\n\nDeposit required  to secure your spot – payable via bank transfer\, cash or cheque. SUMMARY:Drawing Breath: Yoga and Mark-making with Deborah
DESCRIPTION:An experiential workshop\, blending yoga asana\, breath awareness\, meditation and mark-making. Saturday 14th October 2017 1.30 – 4pm £20\nThis workshop is for doodlers\, movers\, breathers and the curious. No previous experience of yoga or mark-making necessary. All equipment will be provided. \nAbout \nThe Drawing Breath workshop blends yoga asana and breath awareness with an exploration of drawing or rather mark making in a meditative\, less directed\, more doodley way. \nWhy say mark making rather than drawing\nMost people (adults) will tell you they can’t draw even some artists will confess to this. It is of course rubbish\, but they won’t believe you. So we call it mark making and every one can do this. We don’t begin with the idea that we are going to draw a particular this or that. We begin with the mark\, how does it feel? What is the sensation of the pencil moving on the paper\, does the hand and the arm sweep or jerk. Is the paper rough or smooth\, how does the mark make you feel? What can you express with your marks? \nWhat to expect\nThe workshop will be similar to a regular yoga class in many ways\, after an initial introduction and settling in\, the session will begin with simple breath awareness\, with and without pencil. We will warm up the body with limbering postures and movements and in the same regard limber our mark making. Then progress to exploring standing and seated postures in movement and mark. Having some fun exploring our feelings and how it feels to make different postures in mark and movement. The session will end with meditation\, a relaxing doodle and savasana (complete relaxation). \nFor those not used to drawing or doodling\, don’t worry you will not be left with a blank piece of paper and not know ‘what to draw’ you will be guided just as you will be guided through the yoga asana. Within this there will of course be opportunity to express your individual self\, in posture and in mark. \nAbout Deborah\,\nDeborah is a practicing fine artist and yoga teacher. Increasingly Deborah has a found commonality between her practices of yoga and art which has led her to share some of these ideas in the drawing breath workshop.

A mixed landscape of woods\, olive groves\, vineyards and a skilfully-worked countryside reflect the agricultural origins of the town. \nThe house offers comfortable shared accommodation\, ample practice rooms and the possibility to practice yoga outside under a comfortable marquee\, from which the rising sun can be contemplated during our morning practices. \nThe programme offers: \n\nMeditation and Pranayama early morning (one hour approx)\nYoga asana (postures) mid-morning (one and half hour)\nAfternoon practice – Question and Answers followed by Yoga postures and Pranayama (one and half hour)\nLate evening gatherings on some days.\n\nThere will be time for quietly enjoying contemplation and personal time. We will observe silence each morning until lunch time\, as well as a full day of silence as part of our practice. \nThe cost of £695 includes full accommodation\, all meals (breakfast\, lunch and supper)\, all yoga practices and the use of the outdoor bath tub. \nThe nearer airport is Pisa – flights from Manchester to Pisa with Jet2.com can already be booked and the cost is now only £153 for a return flight. Transport from and to the airport can be arranged. \nBookings are confirmed with a (non returnable) deposit of £150 with the balance to be paid by 15th of September 2017. Cheques made to Pure Yoga Cheshire\, bank transfer\, Pay Pal or cash are all accepted. \nFor more information and bookings – email us info@pureyogacheshire.co.uk – phone +44 7909 144 414

SUMMARY:Yoga for Back Care with Deborah
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 17th June 2017 1:30pm – 4pm £20\nYoga can be an invaluable practice for managing existing back conditions\, helping prevent future problems and dealing with some acute back pain episodes.\nIn this workshop\, we will use breathing practices to bring awareness to the spine and gentle movements suitable for when we have reduced mobility. Then we will move through limbering sequences toward standing\, seated\, prone and supine postures to take the spine through its full range of flexibilities. \nWe will look at what it means to bring the spine into its neutral curves and how we can use the all-important core muscle group to support our spine during practice. Using strengthening and stabilising postures to help address any muscle imbalances and weakness that may contribute to our back problems. We will finish with some more restorative postures and savasana. \nDeborah has been practicing yoga for many years and with growing knowledge and practice has found yoga extremely beneficial for the prevention and management of her own back problems. \nSince qualifying as a yoga teacher with Yogacampus Deborah has continued to study with them to deepen her knowledge and understanding of therapeutic yoga\, particularly regarding back pain solutions and prevention. Studying with various teachers including Julie Gudmestad\, internationally renowned yoga teacher and licensed physical therapist\, Doug Keller who teaches workshops and trainings in the therapeutic applications of yoga\, and Ann Blackmore a yoga and body work therapist and trained osteopath. \nFor those with existing chronic or acute back conditions we would advise you to consult your doctor or therapist before participating in this workshop. \n
